Reasonable Care - Reasonable care is the standard of care in negligence cases. Reasonable care is the duty of the defendant to act reasonably in order to avoid harming others.
Recovery - Recovery is the amount of money, property or right that is received by a plaintiff as the result of a lawsuit. Recovery is passed by the judge of the lawsuit to the defendant in which he or she must provide.
Remedies - Remedies are relief that is received from the defendant to a plaintiff in a lawsuit. In most cases this is monetary damages or equitable relief such as injunctions.
Remittitur - Remittitur is the judge's order to reduce a judgment that has been awarded by a jury when that reward exceeds the amount originally filed for by the plaintiff. This reduces the amount of the recovery reward given to the plaintiff by the defendant. The remittitur can be for monetary rewards, property or rights.
Reply - A reply is when a plaintiff responds to the demand of the defendant for relief in a counterclaim or counter suit. Most states and federal law only allow replies when the defendant has made a labeled counter claim or when the court orders a plaintiff to file a formal response to an answer.
Request for Production - A request for production is a request in writing to the opposite side of the lawsuit that they turn over documents or items (evidence) for copying or inspection. A request for production can be done by either the prosecution/plaintiff or defense.
Retainer - retainer is the contract between a client and a lawyer that specifies the services the lawyer will render for the client and the cost of those services. The retainer is also the fee that the client will pay the lawyer to act on their behalf.
