Glossary - V
Vermiculite - also known as mica, this mineral has historically been used as insulation. Some types of vermiculite were at one time contaminated with asbestos, and this contaminated vermiculite is still present in some homes.
Visceral Pleura - the membrane that lines the pleural cavity and covers the lung surfaces.
Vein - a blood vessel that carries non-oxygenated blood from capillaries to the heart.
Video-Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery - this type of surgery involved introducing a small camera into a patient's chest. This camera allows a surgeon to more easily view the interior anatomy of the chest.
