Other TopicsBoiler Insulation - Mesothelioma and Asbestos Exposure Risks
For more than half a century, asbestos has been a popular material used in the construction of industrial, commercial and residential properties, because it is highly fire resistant and acts as an effective insulator. However, over the last few decades, asbestos and all asbestos-containing products have been banned in many countries, including Australia and Great Britain, due to the harmful effects of the material. For instance, during World War II asbestos was used widely in shipping applications as a boiler insulator, a pipe insulator, and was a component in the blankets shipyard workers used in their daily work.
Over ten thousand shipyard workers in the United States have died as a direct result of their exposure to asbestos and asbestos-containing products. It is estimated that today, nearly one in 120 men over the age of 50 who die, die as a result of past exposure to asbestos. This adds up to more than 10,000 innocent deaths a year. Despite these staggering numbers, asbestos and its use in common products -- some of which are probably used in your home today -- have not been banned by the United States government. Many of these exposures are not occupational -- that is, they happen outside of the work environment. For many innocent victims, home is the site of these deadly exposures to asbestos.
It is likely that millions of homes in the United States are contaminated with asbestos. This terrible culprit is your boiler insulation. Asbestos has been installed in countless homes in the United States and abroad to insulate boilers. While asbestos is an effective in this application, it is also extremely unsafe, and reflects negligence on the part of the company that has installed or manufactured your boiler. This asbestos boiler insulation will not harm your family as long as it remained sealed beneath a layer of canvas and a special coating agent. However, if the canvas wears down or is broken by an impact or during the replacement of your boiler, millions of tiny asbestos fibers and particles can be released into the atmosphere. When such an event takes place, your home is no longer safe. These asbestos particles from your boiler insulation can be aspirated, in which case they can cause serious, irreparable damage to your family.
Exposure to airborne asbestos particles from your boiler insulation can cause lung scarring, making it difficult for you and your loved ones to breath. Over time, this damage to your lungs often develops into an extremely deadly form of lung cancer. Exposure also causes mesothelioma, a cancer of organ tissue, which is also deadly. In many cases, mesothelioma symptoms take many years or decades to present, and once these symptoms present, it is often too late. If you or your loved ones have been exposed to the asbestos-containing boiler insulation in your home or at work, contact an experienced attorney. It is not your fault that your home or workplace has been contaminated with asbestos. The negligent manufacturer or boiler installation company should be held responsible for their failure to provide the safe service for which you paid. Consult an attorney who is knowledgeable about asbestos civil litigation. If you have developed mesothelioma as a result of asbestos in your boiler insulation, contact an attorney today, and make sure that justice is properly served.
