Breaching Insulation
For much of the last hundred years, asbestos has been used widely in many products that can be found in residences, offices and factories, and educational institutions. The presence of asbestos in our day-to-day lives is alarmingly ubiquitous. In fact, until just thirty years ago, many thousands of products on the market contained asbestos as a constituent. Recently, the use of asbestos in previously popular applications has diminished, because major health organizations and United States government bodies have finally caught wind of asbestos's terrible dangers. Exposure to asbestos is hazardous, and because of this hazardous nature, its use in the manufacture of new products has rendered illegal in the United States. Despite these acknowledged dangers, products that contained asbestos in the past are allowed by law to continue to contain the material. This oversight on the part of protective health organizations threatens to harm families and workers who may be exposed to the harmful effects of asbestos.
Though many common products no longer contain asbestos, you and your family may still be at risk of exposure to asbestos. For instance, commercial boiler ducts are insulated with a material called breaching insulation, a product that is typically asbestos-free in new installations. However, you and your family members may work or go to school in a building whose boiler ducts are insulated with breaching insulation installed before the 1980s, meaning that it is likely to contain dangerous asbestos. Countless thousands of buildings in your area have a commercial boiler duct that has been insulated with asbestos-containing insulation. This puts your family at risk.
What does it mean if you work or go to school in a building harboring deadly asbestos breaching insulation? In a better world, property owners, boards of education, and company presidents would all make removing asbestos breaching insulation from buildings their number one priority. After all, where does our society stand if our workers and children are no longer safe? The sad reality is that for many companies and property owners, identifying and having asbestos removed by a licensed asbestos-removal technician is not the priority it should be. When breaching insulation containing asbestos is not removed and becomes broken or disturbed, harmful asbestos particles can be released into the air. Any large number of these particles can wreck havoc on your body when inhaled.
What follows when a commercial boiler or construction worker, a landlord, a family member, child, or you inhale these tiny, insidious particles of asbestos? If a asbestos-containing breaching insulation on the boiler in your workplace or your child's school has been sanded, buffed, remodeled, or removed improperly, anyone breathing the surrounding air -- not just today, but possibly for many years -- is at risk of developing a serious medical condition or disease. Studies of the effects of asbestos on the human body have proved that asbestos can directly cause a multitude of deadly illnesses, including lung scarring, asbestosis, cancers of the gastrointestinal tract and the lungs, and other horrible conditions that can kill or lay a monstrous burden upon your family. In fact, asbestos is the only known cause of mesothelioma, a particularly devastating cancer of the internal organ tissues. These diseases, especially mesothelioma, can take many years -- even decades -- to present symptoms, by which time great damage has been done to the body and making legal claims can be difficult. If you suspect that you, a spouse, or a child have been exposed to breaching insulation containing asbestos, take action now! Call a knowledgeable attorney who will fight for your rights.
