Ehret Fiber Felt

Until recently, asbestos insulation was widely used material in the construction of industrial, commercial and residential properties. Asbestos insulations are highly fire resistant and are a poor conductor of heat, making them effective for insulating boilers and other large industrial and commercial heating and cooling systems. From before the turn of the century until most asbestos insulations were banned in the 1970s, Ehret Magnesia Manufacturing Corporation and its successor companies operated out of large facility in Pennsylvania, producing a number of asbestos products and materials. During World War II, products such as Ehret fiber felt were in high demand, as shipyards and other industries supported the war effort. Ehret fiber felt was widely used in shipyards, in blankets, ropes, fireproofing, and insulation, and was also popular in the construction and development sectors. Roofers used Ehret fiber felt for 'built up' roofing, a flat application in which layers of asbestos felt are piled and covered with layers of hot asphalt.

In the decades following the war, many workers who spent time working with and working near Ehret fiber felt began experiencing strange health complications. Many thousands of shipyard, construction, and HVAC workers developed lung cancers and a strange, extremely deadly type of cancer called mesothelioma. After years of studies and research, scientists concluded that exposure to the asbestos in products such as Ehret fiber felt was the cause of these terrible illnesses and deaths. Over 100,000 wartime shipyard workers died as a result of this exposure, and to this day, 10,000 Americans die each year from working or living near asbestos and asbestos-containing products.

Despite these staggering numbers, asbestos and its use in common products -- some of which are probably used in your home today -- have not been universally banned by the United States government. Those products that have been banned, such as most types of asbestos insulation, still remain in a frightening number of homes, factories, and workplaces across the country. Many property and business owners are hesitant to hire an experienced, licensed asbestos removal team to remove asbestos from heating ducts and boilers because the procedure can be expensive. When these materials are removed by an unlicensed contractor or remain in your workplace, you are at risk of exposure to asbestos fibers. This reflects negligence on the part of the property-owner, contractor, and the manufacturer of the Ehret fiber felt and boiler insulation.

Ehret fiber felt insulation is not dangerous as long as it is contained by a layer of paint, asphalt, or another type of sealant. However, if this sealant is disturbed, broken, or removed, thousands of asbestos particles may be released into the air. Once the felt has been damaged, these loose fibers of asbestos may settle and become airborne again if disrupted by a breeze or person. If you breathe these harmful particles, you are at risk of developing mesothelioma or another dangerous asbestos-related illness. Although asbestos-related illnesses may take years or decades to present symptoms, many thousands of innocent workers and families who have been exposed to asbestos have eventually developed these deadly diseases.

If you have worked with Ehret fiber felt or believe that you have been exposed to any other asbestos-containing product, contact an attorney immediately. Do not wait until the symptoms of mesothelioma or lung cancer present! Today is the day to seek the advice of an experienced attorney, one who is familiar with asbestos-related claims and can help you to secure the justice you and your family deserve.
