Ehret Pipe Covering

Many people have heard of asbestos and when they hear it, the immediate thought that runs through their head is danger - asbestos is dangerous. The second thought is that asbestos is barely used anymore because of the health implications. However, during the Second World War and for a period time thereafter, asbestos use was high and was used in many products including Ehret pipe coverings. Asbestos was commonly used in products that required thermal insulation, such as Ehret pipe coverings. There were many manufacturers that used asbestos in their insulation formulas, and just one of those was the Ehret Magnesia Manufacturing Company.

The Ehret pipe covering were made using 85 percent Magnesia and went with the trade name Thermalite. Thermalite Ehret pipe covering was made with basic magnesium carbonate that was reinforced with selected asbestos long fibers. Another Ehret pipe covering was also Durocel. Ehret pipe covering, as with many types of pipe insulation coverings, took advantage of the heat resistance and strength of asbestos fibers. There are millions of miles of Ehret pipe coverings and thusly a lot of asbestos in pipe insulations. Workers who made Ehret pipe covering were consistently exposed to asbestos fibers and many are now facing mesothelioma cancer.

Mesothelioma is a rare cancer that makes up approximately three per cent of cancer-related deaths each year in the United States, including people who made or worked with Ehret pipe coverings. While this seems to be only a small percentage, there are approximately 2,000 new cases of mesothelioma reported each year. Mesothelioma is a cancer of the pleura (the lining of the lungs), or the lining of the heart or abdomen. It is caused by asbestos fibers becoming lodged in the lining, which then becomes inflamed. It takes anywhere from 15 to 40 years to appear and once diagnosed with mesothelioma the prognosis is dire and many people succumb only a short time later.

The asbestos that was used in the Ehret pipe covering, and all thermal insulations, is nearly indestructible. It is easily inhaled and once lodged in the lining of the lungs, abdomen or heart, the body is powerless to rid itself of the asbestos fibers.

It is not only the workers who made or worked near Ehret pipe coverings that are at risk for mesothelioma - asbestos fibers are very thin and are easily carried home on clothing, skin, hair and shoes and once again can be dislodged once at home, making the families of Ehret pipe covering manufacturers also at risk for mesothelioma cancer. Any level of exposure to asbestos, even small amounts tracked home from workers who made Ehret pipe covering can increase your risk of mesothelioma and other asbestos related illnesses. There is no set 'exposure requirement' to asbestos - some people who had a lot of exposure making Ehret pipe coverings are never diagnosed with mesothelioma, while others who had very limited exposure to Ehret pipe coverings are.

Asbestos is a great heat insulator and was greatly used for pipe insulation products, including Ehret pipe coverings. Regardless of whether you worked with Ehret pipe coverings, manufactured Ehret pipe coverings, or worked in a place that utilized Ehret pipe covering, you could be at risk for mesothelioma.

If you worked with Ehret pipe coverings, manufactured Ehret pipe covering, worked in a place that had Ehret pipe covering, or are a family member and you've contracted mesothelioma or another asbestos-related disease, you need to contact a mesothelioma attorney to help you with a lawsuit against Ehret pipe covering manufacturing companies and those that used the Ehret pipe covering products.
