Throughout much of the past century, asbestos products like insulation and fireproofing were widely used in industrial, commercial, and residential developments. Asbestos products tend to be fire retardant and in general do not conduct heat well, making them efficient elements in the construction of homes, factories, and workplaces. For nearly one hundred years, Ehret Magnesia Manufacturing Corporation and its subsidiaries manufactured asbestos products at an enormous campus in Pennsylvania. Mid-century, while American troops were fighting in the war effort overseas, the growing wartime usage of Ehret products sparked a great boom in business for the company, which discontinued its line of Ehret products later, in the 1970s, when asbestos was linked to thousands of deaths resulting from exposure during the War World II industry boom. During the war, Ehret products were used in nearly every shipyard across the nation, in products like blankets, ropes, fireproofing, and insulation, and were also popular in the construction and development sectors. This means that many thousands of workers and families were exposed to asbestos-containing Ehret products before the company's line of products was put in check by legislative forces.
Years after the war was won, shipyard workers and others who spent time working with Ehret products began having mysterious health crises. Countless shipyard and construction workers, heating and cooling technicians, and other developed various highly aggressive cancers and a rare, fatal type of cancer called mesothelioma. Observing and studying thousands of these deaths, scientists and health authorities reported that exposure to the asbestos in materials such as Ehret products was the cause of these growing number of agonizing cancer fatalities. Since World War II, more that 100,000 war-time shipyard employees have succumbed to mesothelioma and other asbestos-related illnesses, and to this day, it is estimated that 10,000 Americans die annually as a result of exposure to asbestos-containing products, such as Ehret products.
Though health authorities have cited the dangers of asbestos for more than three decades, asbestos products have not been universally outlawed by the federal government. The asbestos products that have been banned since the 1970s, including most of the products on the Ehret product line, may still remain in many homes, factories, and workplaces around the nation. Some property and business owners choose to ignore the dangers of asbestos, by either leaving it, or having it removed by an untrained, unlicensed individual or team. There is no excuse for such irresponsibility. When these materials are removed by an unlicensed contractor or remain in your workplace, you may be in serious danger. This negligence on the part of the property-owner, contractor, and the manufacturer of the Ehret products is unreasonable and simply unforgivable.
The asbestos in Ehret products is not necessarily dangerous, as long as it remains intact beneath a layer of paint, asphalt, or another type of appropriate sealant. If this sealant is disturbed, broken, or removed, millions of microscopic asbestos fibers may be released into the atmosphere. If you aspirate these hazardous particles, you are in danger of developing mesothelioma and other deadly asbestos-related illnesses. Though asbestos-related illnesses can take years or even decades to present symptoms, many thousands of innocent workers and families who have been exposed asbestos from items like Ehret products have eventually developed these life-threatening illnesses.
If you have worked with or sold Ehret products or believe you've been exposed to asbestos at any time, you should contact an attorney immediately. Don't delay. Seek the advice of an experienced attorney as soon as you can, even if your symptoms have not begun to present. A knowledgeable attorney can make sure you get the treatment and compensation to which you are entitled.
