Other TopicsFire Curtains
There are many products that contain asbestos and many of those products are fire retardant products such as fire curtains. Fire curtains are a safety precaution that are used primarily in large theaters. These fire curtains were originally made with asbestos based materials until the dangers of asbestos were discovered. Fire curtains are also in other places, such as warehouses, bingo halls and businesses. Fire curtains are dropped to extinguish a fire that is ablaze.
Asbestos fabrics were used to create fire curtains for many reasons. Asbestos is cost efficient and very durable. The thin asbestos fibers are nearly indestructible and are a great fire retardant, making them exceptional for use in fire curtains. However, now it is known that asbestos is harmful to health and can cause serious health problems and diseases such as mesothelioma cancer.
Mesothelioma is a cancer of the lining of the heart, lungs or abdomen. It is considered to be a rare type of cancer, however it accounts of three percent of cancer related deaths each year and 2,000 new cases are reported annually. The only known cause for mesothelioma is asbestos exposure. This deadly cancer does not respond to common cancer treatments such as chemo and radiation therapies.
Many theaters used asbestos fire curtains as well as businesses. For the workers at these theaters and for the people who manufactured asbestos fire curtains, the risk of mesothelioma is prominent.
However, there is no direct correlation to the amount of asbestos exposure and e frequency or likelihood of being diagnosed with mesothelioma. There are people with very limited asbestos fire curtain exposure that have been diagnosed, while others with frequent or major exposure are never diagnosed.
One of the major issues with asbestos fire curtains and the impact it has on health is that it takes symptoms of cancer 15 to 40 years to show and for a diagnosis to be made. Once the diagnosis of mesothelioma is made, there is very little that a doctor can do for a cancer victim. For the families and loved ones of mesothelioma victims, there is help and hope. A qualified mesothelioma lawyer can help you launch a lawsuit for asbestos laden fire curtains causing mesothelioma in yourself or in your family member.
While money will not replace a life, it can help to improve the quality of life for the victim as well as for the families by paying for medical expenses, funeral expenses and lost wages.
Fire curtains that were made with asbestos have largely been removed from the general population, hwoever it is possible that there may still be some in existence. Fire curtains are no longer made with asbestos.
