Asbestos Products

Fume Hoods

For many years, especially during World War II, asbestos was a common product used to manufacture many different things, including fume hoods. These fume hoods are a part of the air exchanging systems in many buildings, including public offices and homes. However, while asbestos was, at the time, the most resilient and cost effective solution and product to make fume hoods with, it is now known of the dangers to human health.

Asbestos has been largely removed from the community and a huge endeavor has been made to eliminate products made with asbestos from buildings and homes. Nevertheless, because there were so many buildings constructed during the time that asbestos was frequently used, there is a chance that some buildings and homes still include asbestos loaded products such as fume hoods. The use of asbestos in fume hoods is especially ghastly because of the fact that the fume hoods are part of the air delivery systems in many buildings.

Asbestos fibers are very sturdy and very slender - when they displace into the air, and especially through a fume hood, they easily float into the air that we breathe and are inhaled. When breathed in, there's a risk that these fibers can become wedged in the lining of the lungs, heart or abdomen, called the mesothelium. Eventually, the wedged fibers can cause irritation and can cause asbestos-exposure associated illnesses such as mesothelioma.

Mesothelioma is a rare type of cancer that is only caused by asbestos contact. It is notably a atypical cancer, only making up three per cent of yearly cancer-related deaths, however there are approximately 2,000 new cases of mesothelioma reported each year in the United States. While mesothelioma can only be credited to asbestos exposure, not everyone exposed to asbestos gets this cancer or another asbestos related illness. In fact, there is no express relationship to the quantity of asbestos exposure and the risks of getting a disease such as asbestosis or mesothelioma. There are a plethora of people who had daily, substantial exposure to asbestos, such as people who manufactured fume hoods, who never contract one of these illnesses. Consequently on the other hand, there are people who had very restricted asbestos exposure that have contracted mesothelioma.

Products like fume hoods have been around for many years, and because mesothelioma symptoms take between 15 and 40 years to emerge, it can be very difficult to pin point the source of the cancer - the product that exposed you to asbestos. However, there is assistance. A mesothelioma lawyer is expert at finding the cause of your cancer or illness and helping you with a claim. The funds you win in a lawsuit won't return your health or bring back a loved one that you've lost to mesothelioma, however the funds can help you with the economic blow mesothelioma and other asbestos related diseases caused by fume hoods have had on your family. Medical expenses, lost wages and memorial service costs can be very distressing to a family on top of losing their loved one - a mesothelioma legal representative can help you commence proceedings against the companies accountable for your pain and suffering.

If you, or someone you love has mesothelioma, asbestosis or any asbestos related disease and worked with, constructed with, helped to manufacture or worked near fume hoods, contact a qualified mesothelioma legal representative today.
