Gold Bond Products

In the decades leading up to the 1970s, the National Gypsum Company was the manufacturer and distributor of widely in-demand Gold Bond products, namely gypsum wallboard plasters and materials for interior industrial, residential and commercial developments. Many of their products, including Gold Bond soundproofing and insulating wallboard plasters were installed over the course of a few decades in thousands of homes, factories, schools and workplaces, in a variety of applications. Many of these products in wide use contained asbestos. The wide use of asbestos in Gold Bond products, among others, led to the widespread asbestos-related illness that sparked a nationwide health crisis in the 1970s. Researchers and scientists discovered that many of the workers and families working and living near asbestos materials, such as Gold Bond products, were developing diseases as a result of their exposure to asbestos. After receiving negative publicity and experiencing a public backlash, companies like the National Gypsum Company began to discontinue the asbestos products that had made them so wealthy.

Companies like the National Gypsum Company used asbestos in their products because it was cheaper, and more readily available than alternative minerals. Asbestos could be mined in many regions of the United States and acted both as a fire retardant and a great insulator. As a result of using asbestos in Gold Bond products and similar materials, companies like the National Gypsum Company may have been responsible for the illnesses of thousands of innocent victims who were exposed to asbestos. A large element of the public outcry against asbestos in the 1970s and the following decades came in the form of lawsuits and similar claims against the miners of asbestos and manufacturers of asbestos containing products. Most of the unknowing victims of asbestos exposure could likely have avoided illness if they had been properly informed that the materials with which they worked or insulated their homes harbored materials that could seriously harm their families. In all likelihood, many asbestos products were only discontinued because of the success of such claims against greedy manufacturers.

However, the irresponsibility of asbestos manufacturing companies was allowed enough opportunity to wreck havoc upon families and communities, many of whom are still battling the effects of asbestos exposure today. Thousands of individuals who were exposed before asbestos-containing Gold Bond products were discontinued have yet to present the symptoms of their dangerous, developing illness. Victims who have been exposed to these products should seek help now, before it is too late. Many people with asbestos-related illnesses, such as mesothelioma, do not present symptoms for years or even decades. Those who worked with Gold Bond products or who live, work, or go to school in a building containing Gold Bond products are at risk of breathing asbestos particles in the Gold Bond materials are disturbed, broken, or removed improperly. Even today, these products may still sit in your home, waiting to harm you or your loved ones. If the asbestos in Gold Bond products becomes friable, or is released into the air, they may cause lung cancer, asbestosis, or mesothelioma.

If you believe you may have mesothelioma, or think that you've ever been exposed to Gold Bond products, please contact an attorney now. A lawyer who is familiar with asbestos-related litigation can make sure that your family's rights are guaranteed. Act now before it is too late.
