Asbestos Products

HiTemp Boards

For most of the last century, the Philip Carey Manufacturing Corporation and its successor organizations were the largest manufacturer and distributor of products made from asbestos. During its reign as the leading asbestos materials producer, the Philip Carey Manufacturing Corporation produced a slew of asbestos products, including supplies for industries such as shipbuilding and manufacturing, commercial supplies and parts, and even materials used in the construction and renovation of homes and offices. The most widely sold and lucrative products were various types of asbestos insulation, which could be used to insulate attics, basements, boiler rooms, factories, and more against extreme temperatures. The Philip Carey Manufacturing Corporation and its successors manufactured and distributed these insulation products, one of which was the popular HiTemp Board, using the HiTemp Products Incorporated trade name. Under the auspices of this innocuous trade name, the Philip Carey Manufacturing Corporation manufactured the dangerous asbestos HiTemp Board insulation that would find its way into thousands of residences and commercial buildings around the country.

The HiTemp Board was successful because it was relatively affordable, durable, and was a great insulator. During the years when HiTemp Boards were being produced, asbestos was a popular insulation ingredient, because it is an extremely poor conductor of heat, weighs very little, and doesn't cost much to mine. Despite all of the so-called benefits of asbestos, researchers and scientists have known for decades that asbestos is hazardous. Over the years, thousands -- perhaps millions -- of workers who manufactured or regularly came into contact with asbestos materials have developed life-threatening illnesses like mesothelioma. People who worked with the HiTemp Board are no exception to these staggering figures. In the 1960s, the disconcerting percentage of HiTemp Board workers who had developed mesothelioma and other fatal illnesses was brought to the attention of Philip Carey executives. These executives ignored the stark evidence, opting instead to continue manufacturing a lucrative product.

As a result of this callous negligence, the Philip Carey Manufacturing Corporation and its successors became the subject of numerous lawsuits. Many of the plaintiffs had developed mesothelioma or another asbestos-related illness as a result of their contact with HiTemp Boards, and they suffered greatly because of these illnesses. In most cases, the manufacturer was found liable for having neglected to discontinue the manufacture of asbestos-containing products despite their dangers. These lawsuits served not only to provide funds for medical care of asbestos victims and their families, but they exerted an enormous amount of pressure on the greedy manufacturers of asbestos products like HiTemp Boards. Because of these and other lawsuits, many companies like the Philip Carey Manufacturing Corporation have ceased to produce asbestos materials.

However, thousands of workers have already been unknowingly exposed. If at any time you have worked for a corporation that manufactured or used asbestos-containing products, you may have been exposed to dangerous asbestos fibers. Like countless other workers, you could be at risk of developing mesothelioma or other serious asbestos-related illnesses, including lung cancer and asbestosis. Please, do not wait until the symptoms of mesothelioma present themselves. Act now, while there is still time to secure the safety of you and your loved ones. Contact an experienced attorney. An attorney who is familiar with asbestos-related claims can help you to make sure that the asbestos industry is held responsible for the injuries they have inflicted upon you and your family. Take that first step, and begin to fight back today!
