Puget Sound Naval Shipyard

Puget Sound Naval Shipyard

Puget Sound Naval Shipyard is a very old shipyard. It started out as a Naval Station in 1891 and became a Navy Yard during World War I. Located at Bremerton in western Washington, Puget Sound Naval Shipyard has greatly changed since its inception. Aside from modernizing its carriers, it created and housed a nuclear-powered submarine in 1965, the very first of its class, touted as USS SCULPIN (SSN 590).

Since Puget Sound Naval Shipyard is operating nuclear-powered ships, the U.S Navy has authorized the shipyard to recycle its old ships to prevent toxic wastes from spilling into the sea. In 1990, Puget Sound Naval Shipyard started its recycling program by creating methods and processes that enable workers to safely inactivate the nuclear reactors in ships, dispose of nuclear wastes, and recycle metals and structures of old ships.

How Do People Contract Mesothelioma?

Mesothelioma is a debilitating disease. Anybody can contract mesothelioma without being aware of the actual cause. And before you get home, take a shower and change your working clothes and shoes so that when you go home, your clothes are asbestos-free. It has been reported that asbestos fibers attach to clothes and can be inhaled or swallowed by family members of a shipyard worker.
