Dr. Mark R. Cullen
Professor at the Yale University School of Medicine since 1980 and Director of Occupational and Environmental Medicine at Yale University Medical Center in New Haven, Mark R. Cullen MD is renowned in his field. After receiving his bachelor's degree from Harvard, Cullen attended the Yale University School of Medicine and also completed his residency there. He received his board certification in Preventive Medicine in 1986.
Dr. Cullen has long supported the cause of those who've been sickened by workplace exposure to toxic chemicals and other hazards. Specifically, his research interests focus on causes of chronic disease, disability and death in the industrial workforce, health disparities, isocyanate asthma, chronic beryllium disease and asbestos-related cancers. He lists his clinical interests as diagnosis of occupational and environmental diseases, endocrine and hematologic effects and the problem of chemical sensitivities and cancer.
Dr. Cullen is a member of the MacArthur Network on Socioeconomic Status and Health and was named to the Board of Scientific Counselors at NIOSH and elected to the Institute of Medicine in 1997. Since that time, he has received numerous awards and has been granted many research dollars for the study of environmental and occupational diseases, including the relationship between asbestos and mesothelioma.
Dr. Cullen is also the author or co-author of more than 50 articles and editorials on the effects of job-related stress and exposure to asbestos, lead, oil and solvents. Many have been printed in leading medical journals, including the American Journal of Industrial Medicine, the Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, Health Affairs, Environmental Health Perspectives, and others. He has also co-authored a text book that provide clinicians with the latest tools for detecting, diagnosing and treating the full spectrum of workplace-related and environmental diseases.
Dr. Cullen also serves as an environmental medicine consultant to a number of large corporations and donates his time as a member of many national and international advisory committees.
