Dr. Scott N. Gettinger
A specialist in medical oncology at Yale, Scott N. Gettinger, MD received his medical degree from the State University of New York at Brooklyn in 1999. Dr. Gettinger completed his residency in internal medicine at Beth Israel Medical Center in Manhattan and his fellowship in medical oncology and hematology at the same institution. He became board certified in internal medicine in 2002 and in medical oncology in 2005. In addition to his duties as a doctor at Yale New Haven Hospital, he also serves as an associate professor at the Yale University School of Medicine.
Mesothelioma is a clinical interest of Dr. Gettinger and he has treated numerous patients with the disease. In addition, he also focuses on other types of lung cancers, thymoma, head and neck cancer, thyroid cancer and mediastinal and chest wall tumors.
In the field of research, Dr. Gettinger has concentrated on the research of prognostic biomarkers for the early detection of diseases such as mesothelioma, as well as clinical trial design, novel therapeutics, and radiosensitizers. His keen interest in clinical trials has allowed him to explore newer treatment options for many of his patients and to develop strategies to lessen the difficult side effects of some cancer-related therapies.
