Beneficial Foods Overview
A number of foods are known to be very beneficial for those fighting cancer and other diseases. One of these major groups of foods includes “dark green leafy vegetables,” which are plant leaves eaten as vegetables and may include the plant’s petioles and shoots. These foods are known for being low in calories and fat, high in protein and fiber per calorie, and high in calcium, iron and phytochemicals (including carotenoids, folic acid, lutein and vitamin C).
Another group of beneficial foods includes “cruciferous vegetables.” This group features foods such as broccoli, cauliflower and radishes. Cruciferous vegetables help to fight cancer and disease with antioxidants, glucosinolates and phytochemicals.
Green tea is another beneficial food that can help those fighting cancer and disease. Scientists believe green tea’s beneficial effects come from its antioxidants and EGCG, a powerful kind of catechin that has been found to fight the growth of cancer cells.
