About Dr. Funaki

Dr. Alexandra Funaki is a clinical associate of radiology in the University of Chicago Medicine Mesothelioma Program.

Her clinical interests involve all interstitial lung disease, which often is the result of long-term exposure to hazardous materials like asbestos, the primary cause of mesothelioma.

She has been in practice since 2002.

Funaki graduated from Midwestern Medical School in Downers Grove, Illinois. She interned and did her residency at nearby West Suburban Medical Center. Funaki completed her clinical fellowship in radiology at the University of Chicago and received her undergraduate degree from the University of Pittsburgh.

Funaki is part of the lung cancer, mediastinal tumor and mesothelioma programs at the University of Chicago. In 2013, she and Dr. Hedy Kindler, a mesothelioma specialist at the university, co-authored “Variability of tumor area measurements for response assessment in malignant pleural mesothelioma.”
