Wigfield has vast experience in a wide range of diseases, including mesothelioma, mediastinal and pleural conditions, chest wall tumors and defects. He has strong interest in minimally invasive procedures, including video and robotic-assisted procedures.

His clinical research has focused on lung transplantation. He has studied the impact of donor and procurement-related topics, along with regenerative tissue support in thoracic surgery. He mentors residents and post-doctoral medical students in research and clinical settings.

Wigfield graduated from medical school at Freie Universität in Berlin, Germany.
