Curtis is part of a multidisciplinary team of experts who work to personalize treatment for each patient, making sure they receive the best possible care in the warm and welcoming atmosphere that is a trademark of the Providence experience.

Curtis has been a thoracic and cardiac surgeon for more than 20 years with experience in a wide range of malignancies, including rare cancers such as mesothelioma.

Proud Member of Providence Staff

The Providence Alaska Medical Center opened the much-anticipated Providence Cancer Center in 2007, welcoming a variety of oncological experts.

It is now hailed as the most comprehensive treatment facility in Alaska and equal to anything in the lower 48 states.

The cancer center includes the Alaska CyberKnife Center with the latest radiation technology and the Lee Sheffield Infusion Center for chemotherapy treatments, providing patients with easy-access, multidisciplinary care.

Patients there have access to support services, clinical trials, the latest cancer-fighting drugs and most advanced medical equipment.

Before the cancer center opened, many patients opted to leave their home state in search of finding better care for their malignancies.

Wide Range of Specialties

Curtis is one of a handful of surgeons at Providence who specialize in thoracic and cardiac surgeries.

He also is affiliated with the Alaska Regional Hospital in Anchorage.

His clinical interests include diseases throughout the chest cavity, including the lungs, heart, esophagus and thyroid. He has been involved with lung and heart transplant programs during his career.

Curtis graduated from the University of Colorado School of Medicine. He did his fellowship and residency at Johns Hopkins University.
