Could talc or baby powder be the source of asbestos exposure?

Posted by Mesothelioma Patient | Jan 8, 2026
I’ve been diagnosed with mesothelioma, but I don’t have a clear history of working with asbestos. I’ve heard talc or baby powder might be linked to asbestos exposure — could that be a possible source?

For a long time, asbestos exposure leading to mesothelioma or lung cancer was thought to come only from jobs like asbestos mining, brake work, insulation, or service on Navy ships. However, asbestos can also be found in baby powder. People who had baby powder used on them as children, as well as mothers who used it on their children, can develop mesothelioma. This can include not only pleural mesothelioma but also peritoneal and other forms of the disease. Baby powder exposure can also increase the risk of lung cancer.
