Is there a cure for Mesothelioma?

Posted by Recently Diagnosed Mesothelioma Patient | Jan 28, 2026
I’ve been told there’s no cure for mesothelioma, and I’m feeling discouraged. Is there any real hope for long-term survival or good quality of life?

Although there's indeed no cure, there are long-term survivors. I have seen several patients who are still alive and doing well with a good quality of life five years later, ten years later, and fourteen years later. It's not the majority of patients, but some do. What happens is that we treat it either with surgery or chemotherapy, or immunotherapy, and that cancer goes into remission. Then a few months or a few years later, the cancer develops a resistance and starts growing again. Because if the cancer comes back, then we have the next type of treatment we can offer. And then we take care of it then. And then a few years go by and it comes back again. It's a nagging type of cancer. So then you come back, you see your doctor, and then maybe there's the new generation of experimental treatment that's there through a clinical trial. Then we get it again and that's how the months become years of a good quality of life, not being cured of the mesothelioma, but living with mesothelioma.
