Which Military Jobs Faced the Most Asbestos Risk and Why?
Joe Lahav, a lawyer and on-site legal advisor, describes which military occupations were most at risk of asbestos exposure and why.
[MUSIC PLAYING] The military occupation I think that people think was most at risk for exposure to asbestos would be people in the Navy. Certainly there was a lot of asbestos used in Navy ships. The Navy wanted to prevent fires at sea. Obviously that's one of the worst disasters that you could possibly ever imagine. So they put asbestos all over ships. It's below decks everywhere-- pipe lagging. Machinists used moving pieces. It was designed to stop heat transfer. Boiler tenders, things like that in the Navy, obviously those people were significantly at risk. You've also got military vehicle mechanics who were around things like brake pads. And then there's some other people as well, but not nearly as heavily exposed as people in the Navy or the mechanics working around military vehicles. [MUSIC PLAYING]
