Having Been Both a Mesothelioma Patient and Cancer Caregiver What Advice Do You Have for Caregivers?
Tamron Little has a unique perspective and shares advice the caregivers of mesothelioma patients.
[MUSIC PLAYING] Being that I had cancer 15 years ago-- and at first when I was diagnosed, I'm like, why me? But everything happens for a reason. And I did not know that a decade later that my husband would be diagnosed with a type of cancer as well. So going through that myself really allowed me to see the things that he was going through when he was taking care of me. So our roles reversed. And once they reversed, it felt like I was more prepared. I knew what to expect. I knew the questions to ask the doctors when I took him to his appointments I knew the different treatment options that were available to him. So it kind of, in a way, prepared me for something that I didn't even know that was going to happen. But being a patient, a mesothelioma patient, and then a caregiver, I'm not going to lie, it's hard. It's hard. And you need strength from somewhere that you don't even have it. You have to pull strength. But being that I was a patient before, it really prepared me to be a caregiver because it's emotions in. It's physical. It's mental. So everything just goes in conjunction with one another, and you just have to be prepared. But it really taught me to be flexible and learn how to pivot. [MUSIC PLAYING]
