Kim Madril

Pleural mesothelioma survivor Kim Madril reflects on the process of realizing and understanding her exposure to asbestos.

It's important. I know for myself, to know what sort of the cause. I don't wanna say cause and effect, but for me, it was super important for me to figure like, well, how do I get this? And having information provided for me was vital and key because I was able to sort of connect the dots. And I think it may be it helped me to sort of deal with it because I realized, well, it's not something I did. It's, you know, it's not like I was a cigarette smoker for, like, thirty years. I guess you could say it kind of softened the blow when I figured it out when I thought, oh my gosh. Okay, Kim. You didn't do this to yourself. It happened due to us an exposure. And once I once I was able to grasp that, then I'm like, okay. Well, how did I get exposed? When did I get exposed? And I sort of you know, I put me in a position where I had to go back and think, oh, yeah. Oh my gosh. I remember. That's when it happened. That's when I got the exposure. Holy Molly. I was one of so many students that were in an in fire med that was not safe and exposed to something I just happen to be the one that they got it. And then when you realize, well, there were I was in a position where I was among many as such, but not everyone gets it. When you do get it, it's like serious. And it it it it it will change your life. And unfortunately, a lot of people don't don't know it until they're towards the they're moving on the, I'm gonna say end life, but, you know, they're past their prime as such.
