What Is a MESOMARK Assay Test?

[MUSIC PLAYING] A Mesomark assay is a blood test a physician can prescribe to help find mesothelioma in a patient before symptoms can even be seen. In a Mesomark test, doctors are looking for the SMRP protein, which is usually high in patients who have mesothelioma. A Mesomark assay is not used to diagnose the patient, but high levels of the SMRP protein can indicate a probable diagnosis for mesothelioma. A Mesomark blood test is performed by the physician or nurse practitioner drawing a sample of blood. That blood is sent to a lab, where the levels of SMRP protein are measured. [MUSIC PLAYING]
