Mesothelioma expert Dr. Wickii Vigneswaran explains why pericardial mesothelioma is difficult to diagnose and treat.

[MUSIC PLAYING] Pericardial mesothelioma is a rare type of mesothelioma. It accounts for 1% to 2% of all mesothelioma. They can present with heart failure initially, and it's not unusual to diagnose the pericardial mesothelioma as an incidental finding. You're not suspecting mesothelioma. You are going to treat pericardial effusion or heart failure. Or the other way it presents is what we call constrictive pericarditis. Generally, these patients are not suitable for radiation, maybe considered for chemotherapy depending on their heart function. So it's certainly become an important part of their treatment.
