Why Mesothelioma Biopsies Are Kept Minimally Invasive

Exclusive Content

We do the biopsy minimally invasive because mesothelioma tends to spread through the incision lines. So we know in the little tiny incision will have a few cells that just come through it. We're not really sure exactly why that happens, but it happens.

So we don't want to make any large cut or anything else. Small incision with one camera, we do and take it out. And by the way we don't need the diagnosis of the lung because remember mesothelioma is not a cancer of the lung, it's a cancer of the pleura.

We need a plural diagnosis and that's another misconception that physicians have including some surgeons. Oh I'm going do a biopsy of the lung and be diagnostic. That's not correct.

The reason we're doing this minimally invasive we can look in the camera and go specifically where the tumor is and biopsy the tumor itself.
