Senior Asbestos.com Content Writer, Time Povtek, explains the abundance of asbestos exposure.

[MUSIC PLAYING] So many people were exposed to asbestos because it used to be everywhere. Way back when-- people don't realize that back in the early '70s, we were importing-- our country was importing 800,000 tons of asbestos a year. That's a lot of asbestos. And it's because it was used for everything. Asbestos was used ubiquitously in everything: In buildings, in commercial structures, in residential structures. It was used in every product you can imagine. The great thing about it was that it made everything stronger that it was mixed with. It fireproofed everything. It was heat resistance. Like I've been saying, it's been a good product. But unfortunately, it was also toxic and people will just overlook the toxicity because the toxicity would come 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 years after being exposed to it. [MUSIC PLAYING]
