About Shannon Fitzgerald

Dr. Fitzgerald earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Howard University College of Pharmacy. She then earned her master’s in toxicology through a consortium between the Centro de Investigaciones Biòlogicas del Noroeste, S.C. in La Paz, Mexico and San Diego State University. 

During her master’s program, she worked with sea turtles for 3 years and completed her thesis in Spanish. That research earned her a publication in the journal Biometals. She also completed a month-long internship in Bethel, Alaska, focusing on herbs and their medicinal purposes under the guidance of Kevin Jernigan, a topic that continues to shape her work today.

Before entering pharmacy school, she worked as a toxicologist and environmental specialist for the State of Alaska. She obtained her bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. 

A respected figure in her field, she brings expertise across multiple professional communities. Dr. Fitzgerald is a member of the International Association of Therapeutic Drug Monitoring and Clinical Toxicology, the Washington Metropolitan Society of Health-System Pharmacists and the American College of Clinical Pharmacy.
