Bio
Not only is James Phillip Stevenson, M.D ., an assistant professor in Clinical Medicine in the Division of Hematology-Oncology, but he also serves in a management role as the director of Thoracic Oncology at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This has given him a unique perspective essential to his chosen career focus, researching novel therapies and multidisciplinary approaches for the treatment of lung cancer and cancers of the pleura.
Board certified in oncology and internal medicine, Stevenson specializes in the care and treatment of diseases such as lung cancer and malignant mesothelioma. Under his leadership, the surgical team at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center provides top-level, cutting-edge treatment for mesothelioma and related conditions, such as asbestosis and coal workers' pneumoconiosis.
Stevenson has been instrumental in the advancement of technologies and techniques such as radiation therapy for resected stage 2 thymomas (thymus gland tumors) and multi-modal approaches to treatment that combine chemotherapy, surgery and radiation.
Stevenson researches a wide array of thoracic cancer treatment options, whether proven or experimental. These include the use of drug therapies and medications.
His dedication to his patients, together with his passion for mesothelioma and thoracic oncology research, is widely acknowledged within the medical community, as well as the city itself. He holds affiliations in a number of respected organizations including the American Society of Clinical Oncology, International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer, and the American College of Surgeons Oncology Group.
