UCLA Medical Center, Jonsson Cancer Center
Founded in the late 1960s, today UCLA Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center offers top-notch mesothelioma care. The Center was designated a Comprehensive Cancer Care Center by the National Cancer Institute in 1976 and is housed next to the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center.
The Jonsson Cancer Center employs more than 200 doctors and scientists. Mesothelioma patients are treated by the Thoracic Oncology Department. A multi-disciplinary approach is taken. Each patient's case is evaluated by a team of thoracic surgeons, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists and pulmonologists. With this careful study, UCLA's specialists are able to recommend the best form of treatment for each individual mesothelioma case. The center offers a wide range of clinical trials, and some involve mesothelioma.
The Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center offers a diverse range of support to cancer patients. The Simms/Mann Center for Integrative Oncology offers complimentary therapies that support standard cancer treatments, including acupuncture and nutrition. Support groups and counseling are available through the Simms/Mann Center. The Sue Stiles Program in Integrative Oncology educates patients and physicians about integrative therapies. Interfaith chaplains are always available to patients at the UCLA Medical Center. The Reflections Boutique offers sensitive help for the appearance concerns of chemotherapy patients. The Jonsson Center also works to ensure that all patients receive appropriate palliative care and pain management.
