Bio
The University of Chicago Medical Center has been studying and treating mesothelioma patients for more than 20 years.
Wickii Thambiah Vigneswaran, M.D., has been doing thoracic organ transplantation for just as long.
Their union in 2005 was the perfect fit.
Upon his arrival he became part of the Medical Center's first lung transplant surgical team, providing his expertise in the management of lung disorders and thoracic cancers.
Also a member of the Mesothelioma Program at University of Chicago Medical Center, Vigneswaran, who is the associate chief of Cardiac and Thoracic Surgery and director of Lung and Heart-Lung Transplantation, plays a distinct role in treating mesothelioma.
The Mesothelioma Program takes a team approach to treating the disease. The team is comprised of physicians with specialties in medical oncology, pathology, radiation oncology, radiology and surgery. Each doctor treats different aspects of this rare cancer. With a specialty in the surgical care of mesothelioma, Vigneswaran is part of the surgery division within the team. His extensive experience is vital to the success of the personalized treatment the team provides to each patient.
A testament to his reputation in the U.S. and abroad, Vigneswaran is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. He is also a regular speaker at both national and international medical conferences.
