Baby Powder - Mesothelioma and Asbestos Exposure Risks

Recently, many parents have switched from baby powder to ointments because baby powder contains talc as its fundamental ingredient. Talc is a mineral that was once considered highly useful and largely harmless. However, studies have shown that talc is chemically similar to the asbestos. Over the past couple decades, many cases of ovarian cancer and others are believed to have been caused by talc. Talc is not only carcinogenic, it is also a toxin.

Although today's baby powder is generally free of asbestos, this was not the case many years ago. The danger of using an asbestos-containing hygienic product is clear, as inhaling asbestos fibers could wreck havoc on your body. If such an event occurs, mesothelioma and lung cancer could develop later in life. In fact, mesothelioma can take as long as 50 years to develop and symptoms do not often arise until the latest stages.

Asbestos and Legal Options

Scientists have known for years that talc and baby powder containing asbestos is dangerous, but these items have still been sold to everyday consumers. If you or a loved one have already been diagnosed with mesothelioma as a result of asbestos exposure, you may have options for compensation. Many have already received financial assistance to help pay for medical expenses and lost income.
