About Dr. Kimberly Kopecky
Dr. Kimberly Kopecky began her career with the UAB Division of Surgical Oncology in February 2024. She started as a specialist in peritoneal surface malignancies and delivery of hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy or HIPEC for mesothelioma patients.
She treats several diagnoses and performs surgeries for a variety of cancers, including appendiceal, colorectal, gastric, peritoneal and small bowel. Dr. Kopecky’s main objective is to provide the very best patient-centered care possible.
Focusing on quality of life, she creates an individualized treatment plan for each of her patients. These multimodal plans may include chemotherapy, nutritional support, physical therapy, psychological support or palliative care.
Dr. Kopecky earned a medical degree from Harvard Medical School after finishing a residency in general surgery at Stanford Hospital. She also completed two fellowships – one at Johns Hopkins Hospital studying surgical oncology, and the other at UW Health University Hospital studying hospice and palliative medicine. Her Masters in Clinical Investigation is from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.
