About Tony Rich

Tony Rich is an industrial hygienist and photographic historian who has spent more than 30 years working on asbestos and environmental safety projects. He specializes in asbestos inspection surveys, abatement monitoring, sample analysis, compliance and educating others on workplace safety. His training at the McCrone Research Institute in Chicago focused on identifying bulk asbestos through polarized-light microscopy.

Tony has built a unique collection of asbestos-related photographs, materials, artifacts, historical books and documents. Many organizations, including universities, government agencies and nonprofit advocacy groups, have used his images and research for product studies, science blogs, presentations and regulatory publications. Tony’s work appears in museum exhibits, textbooks, conferences and has served as legal evidence in court cases.Throughout his career, Tony has trained workers in safe asbestos-handling procedures and helped create regulatory guidance documents. He shares his expertise at major conferences like the Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization, where he serves as a Prevention Advisory Board Member. Tony’s personal collection and educational outreach highlight the ongoing dangers of asbestos in workplaces and consumer products around the world.
