About Dr. Diana Molinares

Dr. Molinares is the director of oncology rehabilitation medicine at Sylvester Cancer Center in Miami. With more than 14 years of experience, Dr. Molinares leads the field in sports medicine, physical medicine, rehabilitation and orthopedic surgery. She prioritizes prehabilitation as a vital part of a patient’s treatment plan.

Specializing in mesothelioma and other asbestos-related cancers, she guides patients and their families through the challenges of a mesothelioma diagnosis. She empowers them to improve their physical function and quality of life.

“Prehabilitation is an area of cancer rehab that I’m very excited about because it concentrates on a patient’s ability and function prior to a big procedure, like surgery,” Dr. Molinares said. “We prepare the patient for that surgery, including their function, mobility, strength, cardiovascular capacity, nutrition and the psychological component.”

Since 2014, she has authored several peer-reviewed publications on bettering cancer patient outcomes after surgery through exercise and its relationship to mesothelioma treatments. Dr. Molinares is also an assistant professor of clinical physical medicine and rehabilitation at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.

In 2010, Molinares received her MD from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá, Colombia. She completed her internal medicine internship at the Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York, in 2015 and a residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation in 2018 at the University of Miami Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, Florida.

After a fellowship in 2019 at the University of Texas, MD Anderson Comprehensive Cancer Center in Houston, Dr. Molinares became board-certified in Cancer Rehabilitation. She aims to improve surgical outcomes and function and decrease morbidity related to oncological interventions.
