About Dr. Wolf

Determined to offer hope to mesothelioma patients and families, Dr. Andrea Wolf has used her years of research experience and surgical expertise to improve and innovate in the field of thoracic cancers.

Wolf completed her fellowship and residency at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston under mesothelioma treatment pioneer Dr. David Sugarbaker. While there, she worked on research initiatives focused on heated chemotherapy for pleural mesothelioma.

She believes mesothelioma can eventually become a chronic illness and that new treatments make it possible for patients to live years longer than before.

Watch: Thoracic surgeon Dr. Andrea Wolf discusses her background and areas of expertise.

Wolf graduated cum laude from Princeton University and earned the highest honors alongside her medical degree at Harvard Medical School. She completed general surgery training at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston and later served as chief resident. Wolf holds a Master of Public Health in Clinical Effectiveness from Harvard School of Public Health.

Part of Wolf’s expertise extends to the latest in robotic and minimally invasive surgical techniques, such as video-assisted thoracic surgeries.

“I prioritize individualizing surgery for the patient,” she told The Mesothelioma Center at Asbestos.com. “A decade or two ago, the thinking was more is better. We can minimize the morbidity of their operation by choosing the less-invasive option.”

In 2021, Wolf launched a clinical research trial for mesothelioma patients that combines an anti-cancer vaccine with a surgical approach to improve patient outcomes.

Through her clinical research initiatives and by utilizing a multidisciplinary approach with her team at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, Wolf is leading the way for improvements to mesothelioma therapies and life expectancies.
