The construction industry is one of the most hazardous industries in the United States because of the high risk of falling, vehicle accidents and the use of heavy machinery. In addition, the potential for asbestos exposure from a wide variety of building materials still remains a strong threat today.
Many older homes, primarily those constructed before or during the 1980s, were built with materials containing the toxic mineral asbestos. Such construction workers that may be at risk include electricians, plumbers, painters, carpenters and a wide variety of other specialty workers. Those that work in the construction industry should be cautious of asbestos exposure while working with any of the following types of products:
